Down We Go!

ו) בֹּאוּ נִשְׁתַּחֲוֶה וְנִכְרָעָה נִבְרְכָה לִפְנֵי ה’ עֹשֵׂנוּ:

Come! Let us prostrate ourselves and bow, let us kneel before G-d our Maker.

Rav Hirsch continues his explanation of these verses by saying this verse means, ‘come let us all unite in one emotion, in perfect devotion to Him both in our lives and actions.’ This is expressed by השתחויה casting ourselves down before Him.

In other instances, such as in the Aleinu prayer כריעה comes before השתחויה, kneeling precedes prostration, here the order is reversed. Our pasuk indicates a rising up immediately following the prostration. This is because Chazal say that הכל בזכות השתחויה, all that is glorious, blessed and great can be won by such unreserved devotion.

In the same Medrash we are told that even the dead will rise again only as a result of perfect devotion. This same thought seems to be indicated here by the fact that rising up comes only after the complete and perfect prostration.

The idea here is that once we have come to an intellectual recognition of Hashem, the next step for us is to bring Him into our consciousness and  translate that abstract idea into the world of action.
