ד) כִּי גָדוֹל ה’ וּמְהֻלָּל מְאֹד נוֹרָא הוּא עַל כָּל אֱלֹהִים:
For Hashem is great and very much praised; He is feared over all divine powers.
Rav Hirsch explains that this pasuk is telling us to proclaim that only Hashem can be truly great. He is the One true G-d who holds all the future in His hands. At the same time, מהולל מאד, ‘He shines forth’ with infinite clarity, recognisable to all, from everything that exists.
All living things constitute a revelation of His greatness in mighty acts, and declare that He stands in awesome exultation above all those things that man in his delusion would endow with Divine qualities.
For time immemorial man has worshipped nature instead of worshipping the Source of it all. Hashem has given us the intellectual ability to make this distinction, something that mankind will not be fully aware of until the coming of Moshiach, when the truth will be clear for all to see.
