ו) הוֹד וְהָדָר לְפָנָיו עֹז וְתִפְאֶרֶת בְּמִקְדָּשׁוֹ:
[They ascribe] beauty and majesty before Him; might and glory in His sanctuary.
The Malbim draws a distinction between the words hod and hadar as well as oz and tiferes.
Hod is something internal, an expression of the essence whereas hadar is the beauty of its external form. Similarly oz refers to inner strength whereas tiferes, is the external splendour.
According to this Hashem has hod and hadar in front of himself as it were namely, His inner will and the way that His will is expressed to the world.
This inner will leads to a sense of ‘might in His sanctuary’, in the way that He runs the natural world. His hadar on the other hand, leads to an emanation of tiferes when He runs the world in a miraculous, supernatural way. These miracles lead to a recognition of Hashem’s power, which in turn brings glory to His Name.
