י) אֹהֲבֵי ה’ שִׂנְאוּ רָע שֹׁמֵר נַפְשׁוֹת חֲסִידָיו מִיַּד רְשָׁעִים יַצִּילֵם:
You who love Hashem, hate evil; He watches the souls of His pious ones, He rescues them from the hands of the wicked.
Rav Hirsch gives us an important insight regarding the eternal relevance of the pesukim that we have been learning about. He says that the glimpse into the future of mankind as given in these chapters is intended to call upon those of every generation who are friends of G-d’s cause to hate implacably not the evil man, but evil itself, and to rise in open opposition against evil whenever and wherever it may appear.
For this brief look into the days to come is meant to assure us that evil cannot last forever in this world, that the future belongs to the righteous and that with every human act of intervening against evil, the kingdom of G-d and hence salvation on earth – is brought one step nearer.
Every fighter against evil is therefore a champion of G-d’s own cause and enjoys His special protection.
