Delightful Times Ahead

יא) אוֹר זָרֻעַ לַצַּדִּיק וּלְיִשְׁרֵי לֵב שִׂמְחָה:

A light is sown for the righteous, and for the upright of heart, joy

Rashi explains that the light is ‘sown’ meaning that it is ready to sprout for the righteous when the time is right. The Seforno adds that this light, which has been saved for the world to come, will eternally illuminate the minds of those who toil in Torah in pursuit of the truth.

The Ibn Ezra explains that the world to come will be a spiritually fertile period, so even one who sows a small amount of Torah in this world will reap a great harvest of understanding in the future.

The famous pasuk in Mishlei likens mitzvos to a candle and Torah to a light. Whilst of course we gain greatly from the light of Torah in this world, in truth our actions create a light that is actually being stored away for us to benefit from and enjoy in the world to come.
