A Thought for Taanis Esther and Purim

Taanis Esther and Purim are powerful days of reflection and tefillah. Perhaps all the more so in light of yesterday’s horrific attack in Belgium and the ongoing situation in Israel .

On Taanis Esther it is customary to call out to Hashem in heartfelt prayer and recite Tehillim chapter 22 http://www.hineni.org/sites/default/files/BinderPsalms22.pdf which was recited by Esther before she risked her life by going to Achashverosh.

The message of Taanis Esther and Purim is that no matter how desperate things may seem,  no matter how far off salvation may appear, all the events that we see and experience are part of a far larger plan. Purim is a time when we can lift off the mask and see Hashem’s Hand. As we listen to the Megillah this evening and see how every detail led to the ultimate salvation, we have the opportunity to strengthen our own Emunah in Hashem’s providence.

Over the last few months we have been learning through Kabbalat Shabbat and the theme of redemption has been present in almost every verse. As we celebrate Purim and move towards Pesach, these themes and ideas become all the more real.

May these days be ones of light and rejoicing for us, the entire Jewish people and the whole world

The daily posts will be taking a break for Purim and will be resing on Monday 28th March with a series on the Hagada. We will resume our study of the tehillim of Kabbalas Shabbos after Pesach IYH.
