פרק קיג
א) הַלְלוּי’הּ הַלְלוּ עַבְדֵי ה’ הַלְלוּ אֶת שֵׁם ה’:
Halleluyah! Praise, you servants of the Lord, praise the name of the Lord.
The commentaries all note that the word הללו appears three times in this short pasuk. The Radak explains that this is to tell us that we are obligated to praise Hashem with many praises. It’s not enough to say thank you once, rather the hakaras hatov that we need to have to Hashem is constant and ongoing.
One of the dominant themes of Hallel is of course yetzias mitzrayim, where Hashem intervened with the laws of nature and performed mighty and wondrous acts in front of the eyes of millions of people. Hashem’s gevurah might and constant supervision of this world means that at any point the status quo can change, people who are important today can be irrelevant tomorrow and vice versa. It is Hashem’s ability to bring about an immediate salvation and change in events that demonstrates both His power and might and our reliance on Him.
